COMPETITIONS

                   There is a wide selection of competitions for anyone to enter.

They are displayed and judged on the day of the show.

The following is a list of all the classes.

 

HOW TO ENTER

Fee to enter: - 50p for adults 

(up to a maximum of £5 to be paid regardless of the number of entries)

Childrens entries free.

ALL ENTRIES MUST BE IN BY FRIDAY 26TH JULY

You can enter in person at Cherington Village Hall 

Between 7-8pm on Tuesday 23rd July

Please state your name and the class or classes you are entering.

For children’s classes please add the age of the child.

Please bring your exhibits to the Village Hall

Between 11am and 4 pm on Saturday 25th July

Between 8am and 9.30am on Sunday 26th July 

Judging takes place at 10 am

No exhibits to be removed before 4.30 pm

 

COMPETITION RULES

The decision of the Committee is final and any disputes can be made to the Committee before 12.30pm at the Treasurers Table at Coxes Farm

No responsibility will be taken by the Committee for loss or damage during the show

Only one entry per person per class

Any prize may be reduced at the Judge’s discretion

No exhibit to be entered that has been entered in a competition before.

Prize money can be collected from the Treasurer at Coxes Farm between 3-4pm

SECTION A AND B – All exhibits must be grown by the exhibitor in their garden or made by the exhibitor 

 

HORTICULTURAL CLASSES

Section A YOUNG GARDENERS

(under 15 yrs grown by the exhibitors)

  1.   A small container of wildflowers (can be grown or picked)

  2.   Miniature flower garden on a plate 

  3.   Best homegrown vegetable 

  4.   Longest runner bean

  5.   Character made from fruit and/or vegetables 

 

 

Section B   GARDENERS

 

  1.   5 French Beans

  2.   5 Runner Beans

  3.   3 Beetroots with roots /15 cm tops

  4.   2 Cabbages

  5.   3 Carrots with roots /tops trimmed 10 cm

  6.   3 Courgettes 4”-6” with flowers if possible

  8.   5 Onions grown from sets with 10 cm tops

  9.   Parsley (bunch)

  10.   5 Garden Peas in pods

  11.   5 Potatoes

  12.   12 Radishes

  13.   12 Raspberries

  14.   12 Strawberries

  15.   5 Shallots

  16.   3 Gladioli stems

  17.   3 Hydrangea heads, same variety

  18.   Vase of Annuals, 3 distinct varieties

  19.   3 Dahlias in a Vase

  20.   3 Hosta leaves in one container

  21.   Perennial Phlox

  22.   5 HT Roses

  23.   3 Spray Roses (not HT) any variety

  24.   Sweet Peas, 5 stems

  25.   2 specimen roses, with own foliage

  26.   Pot Plant with best foliage 

  27.   Pot Plant with best flowers 

  28.   6 eggs, any colour, from own flock

  29.   A basket of mixed vegetables (max size 60cm x 30cm)

  30.   Garlic. 3 heads/this season/tops trimmed to 3” on a plate

  31.   Blackcurrants, 5 sprays

  32.   Redcurrants, 5 sprays

  33.   Gooseberries x 12

                                     Section C   FLOWER ARRANGING

  1.   Summer Hedgerow- can include foliage, flowers, seeds, grasses

  2.   An arrangement of herbs

  3.   An informal arrangement in a teapot

  4.   A Buttonhole

A children’s workshop will be held on Monday 22nd July in Cherington Village Hall from 2.00pm – 5.00 pm to help with the competitions in Section F.

COMPETITION CUPS

The Perpetual Challenge Cup will be awarded to the exhibitor with the most

points in Horticulture

The Mabberley Cup will be awarded for the best exhibit in Horticulture

The Amy Wood Cup will be awarded for the best exhibit in Flower Arranging

A Cup will be awarded for the best exhibit in Children’s Cookery

The Euleen Ind Cup will be awarded for the best exhibit in Children’s Handicrafts

A cup in memory of Charles Rymer will be awarded for the best exhibit in Photography.
